In order to your journal article is published open access, you often have to pay a fee, known as an Article Processing Charge (APC). The publishers below offer a discount on APC to Science Tokyo authors based on the institute's online journals agreement. APC Discounts for Authors Affiliated with Science Tokyo

Eligible Authors

Those who are affiliated with Science Tokyo at the time of open access application. However, during the period when the discounts listed on this page are applied based on the agreements with each of the former Tokyo Institute of Technology and the former Tokyo Medical and Dental University, the available publishers are limited.

  • Science and Engineering
    • Those who are affiliated with a School ( School of Science, School of Engineering, School of Materials and Chemical Technology, School of Computing, School of Life Science and Technology, School of Environment and Society ).
    • Those who are affiliated with the Institute for Liberal Arts, Research Organizations, Institute-wide Education Centers, Institute-wide Support Centers, or Offices under the Executive Board and were affiliated with Tokyo Tech as of September 30, 2024.
  • Medical and Dental Sciences
    • Those who belong to Yushima, Surugadai and Kounodai campuses.
    • Other campus members who were affiliated with TMDU as of September 30, 2024.

Discounts Through Open Access Publishing Agreements (Transformative Agreements etc.)

"Transformative agreements" generally refer to contracts that try to shift gradually the paiments by institutions to publishers from fees for accessing to articles to article publication fees and aim at expanding open access publications thereby.

APC support based on the Open Access Acceleration Project  (until late January 2024, ending as soon as the planned amount is reached)
For OA publication of articles in e-journals that are not covered by the above “Discounts Through OA Publishing Ageements (Transformative Agreements etc.)” , based on the OA Acceleration Project implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, Science Tokyo will provide support  for the APC.
This support is available only to science and engineering members.
