The library (science and engineering fields) is accepting applications from science and engineering faculty and departments to subscribe to and cancel research-funded subscriptions to foreign journals published in 2026 during the following time periods. 

If you currently subscribe to a international journal through the library or wish to apply for a new subscription, please do so before the deadline.

 

1. Application Period

Monday, June 16, 2025 to Friday, July 18, 2025

 

2. Procedures

Please log in to the Portal for Sci & Eng Field, Science Tokyo and select “図書館サービス:Library Service” on the list. Then, navigate to the “Subscribing Journals” section on that page and apply for your subscription request (New request/Continuance/Cancel). Please check the following manuals for details on the operation.

  • When you subscribe to journals through the library, only institutional operating expense funds (i.e., research expenses/education expenses/education and research support expenses) can be used for payment. If you intend to use a budget that has not been registered with the library, please register the budget code in advance through Rakrak Workflow II in the Science Tokyo Portal.

    * If a person other than the administrative budget manager wishes to submit an application, administrative budget manager need to [代理人設定: Setting on your deputy] in advance (see p.9).

    * If you do not have access to Rakrak Workflow Ⅱ, please submit "Application form for budget code registration".

  • If a person other than the administrative budget manager applies on behalf of the administrative budget manager, he/she needs to apply for a “Journal Subscription by proxy” in Rakrak Workflow II in advance.

    *  Application is required for each fiscal year.

    *  If you do not have access to Rakrak Workflow Ⅱ, please submit "Application for online services at public expense". 

 

3. Notes

(1) The journal price increases 5-10% constantly every year. In addition, depending on the exchange rate movement, the price converted into yen may rise further. 

Further, due to the tax system revision in FY 2015, subscriptions to e-journals published by foreign publishers have been taxed from 2016. Please note that if the print subscription includes the price of online access, you might be charged with consumption tax. Please give this due consideration before deciding to subscribe to a journal.

(2) Please be aware that subscriptions cannot be canceled or added after the purchase orders are sent to the subscription agency.

(3) If you plan to retire or leave Science Tokyo during FY 2025, please make sure you submit the necessary applications to cancel any ongoing subscriptions.

(4) Please contact us immediately if your affiliation or other relevant personal information changes after submitting your applications.

(5)If you wish to apply for electronic versions of new journals (e-journals), please indicate so in the comments section. However the subscription fee for the electronic version may be higher than the subscription fee for the print version.
