Non-campus members can use Tokyo Tech Library by online application in advance.
The following changes are applied from April 3, 2023.
To Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) Members
Prior application is not required.
Please register with your IC Student/Staff ID card at the circulation counter.
You can use the libraries during the opening hours, including a period of quarter-end exams.
To alumni who have a “Kuramae Card”
Prior application is not required anymore.
Please register with your Kuramae card at the circulation counter.

Terms of Use
- Our libraries are open to the public, but only for those:
- who need our library materials for academic research / study.
- who need our library materials that are unavailable for ILL services via an institute of affiliation / a public library.

- All visitors are required to follow the Tokyo Tech Library Regulations .
- The libraries belong to Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech). Tokyo Tech members are given priority.
Available Services
1. Using library materials
If the material you need is located in "Stack Room" or "Counter", you need to apply for use at the circulation counter.
2. Access to e-resources
- The PCs for e-resources are available from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Please apply by 4:30 p.m..
- Some e-resources have limitations of access due to contracts.
- Use of the PCs may be limited to 30 minutes in case other visitors are waiting. There are 2 PCs for e-resources in Ookayama Library and one in Suzukakedai Library.
- Printing is available (black and white \40/sheet, color \80/sheet). Users need small change to use the coin-operated printer.
- Printing for a commercial purpose is not permitted.
- Downloading PDF files is not available.
3. Photocopying (until 30 minutes before closing)
- Photocopiers are available for copying library materials. Please make sure to follow the Copyright Act. For further information, see “Photocopy ”.
- Users need small change to use the coin-operated photocopiers. We do not make change.
- Photocopying for a commercial purpose is not permitted.
- A receipt can be issued from the coin-operated photocopiers.
4. Borrowing books
Only visitors who have a library card issued by Tokyo Tech libraries can borrow up to 2 books for 2 weeks. For further information, see “Checkout”
For borrowing books, please use ILL services via an institute of affiliation / a public library. See “Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery”
How to apply
- Prior application is required. Please apply at least 2 business days before your visit.
Refer to the following table. For example, you need to apply by Monday (see the upper row) to visit on Wednesday (see the lower row of the table).
*It may be changeable due to a closed day / holiday.
- Visitors cannot use Ookayama library during the following periods of exams:

From Tuesday, July 25, 2023 to Tuesday, August 8, 2023
From Tuesday, November 21, 2023 to Sunday, December 3, 2023
From Friday, January 26, 2024 to Friday, February 9, 2024
- Before applying, you need to specify a library material to use. Please search for the online catalog to confirm if the material you need is held in the libraries.
- When filling in the following application, please make sure to fill in the detail of the material you need (e.g. title, call number, book ID, location).

- After sending your application, you will receive an auto-reply e-mail that tells you the procedure is complete. If you don’t receive it, please contact us .
- You may receive an inquiry e-mail from the libraries.
*Application by phone / e-mail is not accepted.
*Visitors without prior application are not allowed to use the libraries (except TMDU members and alumni with a Kuramae card).
*Please visit public libraries if you need materials that are held in public libraries.
*We will not reserve the specified materials. They may be on loan when you visit the library.
*Library cards for visitors are not issued / renewed.
*When you cancel your visit, please inform us .
*When you need to change the date of your visit, please cancel it and reapply.
*Please make sure you don’t have any symptoms of sickness when visiting.
