Checkout, Renewal, Return, Loan extension

You can check out books either at the circulation counter or with self-checkout machines. 

You need your IC card (student card/staff card/access card/campus card) issued by the Science and Engineering field of Science Tokyo for checkout. If you do not have one, please present your Library Card at the counter. For information on how to obtain a Library Card, please refer to the page below.

Books and audio-visual materials can be checked out, but journals and reference books are restricted to in-library use. The number of items you can borrow depends on your status.

We provide a Books-by-Mail Service for IC card holders who cannnot come to the Libraries.
If you need to use this service, please notify us you cannot visit the Library due to health reasons. We will inform you how to use this service.

Applications received after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, weekends and holidays will be accepted on the following weekday.

You can renew books at the circulation counters or with self-checkout machines until the due date as long as no other user has reserved those items. Please bring your IC card and the book you are borrowing.
The new loan period is the same as the original one, starting on the day of the renewal.

You can extend the due date three times per item through "Online Request".

Library card
You cannot extend the due date through online. Please renew at the  circulation counters on the Ookayama Library or the Suzukakedai Library.

The due date cannot be extended in the following cases. 

・You have overdue materials. 
・You are during the loan-suspended period. 
・The item is reserved by another user.

Please return library materials you have finished using to the Circulation Counter or book return. 

You can return library materials at the Ookayama/Ochanomizu/Konodai/Suzukakedai Library. Please refer to this page.
If you miss the due date, you will not be able to borrow, renew, or reserve any items for as many days as you delayed to return.
You can check the due date from "Online Request".

You may return checked-out materials by mail at your own expense. Please contact the address below first. 

Notes

• Do not return books borrowed via ILL Service to the book returns. Please return those books at the circulation counters during the opening hours.
• Books from the Liberal Arts Library cannot be returned to any of the libraries at Science Tokyo. Please return them directly to the Liberal Arts Library.
• Returns to the book return may take some time to reflect in the “Borrowing and Reservation Status/Renewing” section of your online request.

Ookayama Library and Suzukakedai Library extend the loan period during fiscal year 2025 due to long break (summer, winter, and spring break) as follows.

*Medical/Dental Members are also eligible. Please refer to this page for more information about visit Ookayama Library and Suzukakedai Library.
*Checkout with High school students and blue library cards are not eligible for loan extension.
